    Description
    Earliest Stamped Letter from Australia Remarkable cover to London dated on front "Sydney Nov. 3. 1840" endorsed "G.S. Evans" and addressed to the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands. The cover carried by hand and franked for domestic transport on arrival in England with 1 d. black with corner letters DI, large margin at right and three huge margins showing five surrounding stamps. The stamp tied to the cover by a Maltese cross in black colour and on the side a straight line "Bishopsgate Within". On back a London arrival pmk. "AP.12 1841". EXHIBITION RARITY

    TASMANIA. A very interesting letter sheet from the Postmaster General F. C. Smith dated April 21 1856 to the Colonial Agent Edward Barnard (arrival mark "RECEIVED JUL.30 1856") and forwarded to Perkins Bacon. The letter is a request for supply of quality paper for printing of postage stamps and has three sample strips of paper glued to the letter sheet. UNIQUE EXHIBITION ITEM.

    TASMANIA WATERMARK ESSAY. A remarkable lot with a letter from De La Rue asking for permission to produce a new dandy-roll for the new denominations 2 1/2 d. and 5 d. dated June 5th 91 and sent to The Agent General for Tasmania. Enclosed are the original reply dated 8th June 1891 as well as the watermark essay on brown paper showing the position of the watermark. The essay with some folds of no importance.
