Description
Earliest Stamped Letter from Australia Remarkable cover to London dated on front "Sydney Nov. 3. 1840" endorsed "G.S. Evans" and addressed to the Chief Commissioner of Crown Lands. The cover carried by hand and franked for domestic transport on arrival in England with 1 d. black with corner letters DI, large margin at right and three huge margins showing five surrounding stamps. The stamp tied to the cover by a Maltese cross in black colour and on the side a straight line "Bishopsgate Within". On back a London arrival pmk. "AP.12 1841". EXHIBITION RARITYSold at Auction

Description
PLATE 11, lettersheet with one penny greyish black from this rare printing plate, close at right. Pos. AB. Very beautiful with black Maltese cross and clear side canc. "DORCHESTER FE 13 1841" addressed to a known lawyer Septimus Smith in Blandford. Interesting contents about a prisoner, the contents can be considered complete, as one missing page can to a large extent still be read as the ink has been offset onto another page (mirrored) in the letter.
